bleu de Gnes is the French term that gave rise to the word 'Jeans' because it was in the Italian town of Genoa where this form of trousers were being sold along the harbour in the nineteenth century, which at that time was an important naval and shipping power. The fabric was produced in the French town of Nimes which gives rise to another word denim (de Nimes) and in Indian town of Dhunga where the sailors used to wear this outfit as overalls so we have the word Dungaree. The concept of women's jeans was totally unthinkable at that time.
It was not until the nineteenth century feminist movement that the need for women's jeans or pants emerged. This movement demanded that women should wear more practical clothes and not the traditional Victorian ones, that would allow activities taken by the women beyond those traditionally assigned to the female domestic sphere of life. It was not until the Second World War, that women's jeans became popular when they started to work in industries while the men were fighting at the battle front. How women's jeans differed from those of men is of particular interest. The women's jeans had zip on the side whereas the men's jeans had zip on the front. It was not until the sixties that the women's jeans began having zips on the front. Even then women's jeans were known as dungarees.
Like fashion in general different styles of women's jeans began to move 'in' and 'out' of the fad. We see skin-tight women's jeans in the 1980s and in the early nineties fashion returned to the bell-bottoms of the early era and much later in the nineties we see a re-emergence of tight women's jeans.
These tight women's jeans serve as a precursor to today's latest style in the women's jeans i.e. the Skinny jeans. We at Superlooks have an exclusive variety of women's jeans that are available in different designs and a wide array of colours some of which are bright and exuberant and some which are very traditional. They include purple, yellow, black, white, red, and blue coloured women's jeans. We also have the traditional colour blue jeans which have faded effects on them; they give a washed appearance and these women's jeans are commonly worn by women bikers. We also have the very special women's jeans which have lace corset on it. Order your delivery now on Superlooks.com!
Women's leggings as seen today are firmly-fitting trousers that extend from the waist to usually the ankles or calves. These women's leggings are usually made from a nylon-lycra blend. The women's leggings' composition is usually 90% nylon, and 10% lycra.
Leggings in various forms and under various names have been worn for warmth and protection as both men's leggings and women's leggings from many centuries. The separate hose worn by men in Europe from the 14th to 16th centuries in the Renaissance period were a form of leggings too! Even the trews of the Scottish Highlands are leggings with some modification. When we talk about North America we can see that separate leggings made out of buckskin in leather were worn by some Native Americans in the olden days. These buckskins were adopted by the Americans who had come to colonize and later by mountain men.
The women's leggings were in demand in the mid-19th century as linen pantalettes were being worn by girls at that time. Even the women who were wearing crinolines were also a form of women's leggings.
In the modern age the women's leggings first became popular for dancing due to the influence of the movie Flashdance and the Broadway hit A Chorus Line. Women's leggings became a part of fashion in the 1960's when they were worn like capri pants, but only much tighter. It was not until the fitness craze in the early nineteen eighties that the women's leggings as gym clothes became fashionable.
The women's leggings are worn either with no outer garment or underneath an outer garment such as a skirt, a large t-shirt, or a pair of shorts.
In colder parts of the earth like Russian and Canada women's leggings made out of wool have been popular and even men have continued to wear wool leggings into modern times, often as an additional outer layer for warmth.
Today we see women's leggings making a comeback on the fashion scene. The only difference is that women's leggings now are with capri-length and they are being donned along with miniskirts, short dresses, and oversized cardigans.
